Ebooks

"[...] as with any good book, when a story is engrossing, the interface disappears."

The original poster used this sentence to talk about a new (printed) book format, but I think it applies easily to ebooks as well. I think this new format is really neat--a tiny book printed horizontally on onion-skin like pages so the book is ultra-light--and obviously has advantages that ebooks don't have (no battery to recharge, low cost), but it's not even close to being as handy as electronic formats that give you the possibility of carrying (and searching!) hundreds and thousands of books, essays and short stories at a time.
