Providing What People Need

I think I've mentioned this article on secular humanism here before ("The Comfort Blanket" by Chelsea Coleman, published on thenewhumanism.org), but I was rereading it today and two quotes stood out:

"Long standing cultural institutions such as Christianity have often been the first to figure out what people need and how to accommodate them, but these same institutions too often use this wisdom and capability to control people."

"Religions create the illusion of problems (such as original sin) and then solve them."
